Why should I be a ‘Christian’?

Everyone is guilty of sin. We all do wrong things, think wrong things, and say wrong things. Because of the error of mankind we were all condemned to an eternity away from God. But, ‘God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him may not be lost, but have eternal life’. John 3:16

You should become a Christian so that you will have eternal life.

What does it mean to be saved?

To be well-looked-after, delivered/set free and protected from the evil one, sin, the consequences of sin and eternal death.

The Bible says in John 5:24 “I tell you the truth, whoever hears what I say and believes in the One who sent me has eternal life. That person will not be judged guilty but has already left death and entered life.” (New Century Version). When we believe in Jesus Christ, He saves us from judgement and gives us access to live with Him in eternity.

Why is it important to pray?

Prayer is our way to talk to God. It is how we communicate with God to keep our relationship with Him alive and active. When we first become a Christian, we say a prayer asking for forgiveness and acceptance as one of His children. You can say this prayer aloud as a confession of your faith in Jesus:

Lord God, I believe I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for the forgiveness of my sin. I am willing to change and turn from my sins. I now invite Jesus Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour and ask that You write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life for eternity. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen!

If you have just said the above Prayer, Welcome to the Family of God!

The Bible tells us in John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the light to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (New King James Version). You have just become a child of God through Jesus Christ. That’s exciting news and we know God is rejoicing to have you as His Child.

Your Next Steps

Read your Bible every day to get to know Christ better!

1.

The Bible is God's Word so reading and studying the Bible is a way to get to know God better.

Reading God’s Word helps us to know God’s character and attributes. The more we read and study God’s Word,
the more we come to understand His plan for each of us. We suggest using a Study Bible as they will have notes, explain passages of scripture with illustrations, book and chapter summaries, maps and timelines to further explain the Bible.

A good study Bible will help make reading the Bible a lot easier. It’s also important to use a good Bible translation.

We suggest English Standard Version or ESV, New Living Translation (NLT), or a New King James Version Bible (NKJV).

Don’t forget to set aside a time to read your Bible every day. A Bible Plan or Bible Reading Apps you can download on your phone can help with this.

We suggest reading the book/gospel of Mark to start with. If you have questions, discuss them with someone who has been a Christian for a while or contact us.

Also, don’t forget to attend ACCESS Bible sturdy every Wednesday online. The sessions will be a great help in your new life as a Christian.
It’s Time to Get Baptised!

Undergoing water baptism is a clear commandment from Jesus Christ.

Water baptism represents your first public step of obedience in your relationship with Jesus.
In the Bible we see that the next step every believer took after declaring Jesus Christ
as their personal Lord and Saviour, was water baptism. Jesus also submitted himself in obedience
and was baptised even though He never sinned. He allowed Himself to be baptised by John the Baptist,
and He said “it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness.” (Matthew 3:15).
Jesus showed His disciples and followers how important water baptism was
and led by example. So water baptism is your next step!

Colossians 2:12-13
“having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God,
who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh,
God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins.”

Acts 2:38
“Peter replied, “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

John 3:5
“Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”

Your decision to be water baptised demonstrates your desire to be identified with Jesus.
Water baptism is a powerful symbol of your salvation in Christ and a seal of your Christian commitment and experience.
Guess what? There is no unbaptised disciple in the New Testament!
The order of the New Testament is very clear and helpful to remember – believe and be baptised.
It is a necessary step in your walk with Jesus and in your obedience to Him and His Word.
